Running out of time on Sunday afternoon, and almost castled out, ran all the way back uphill to Edinburgh Castle--to differentiate for you-- Holyrood: stately, grand, comfortable. Edinburgh: grim, fortified, militarized. As soon as they felt halfway safe, guess where the royalty all chose to live? Mm-hmm, Holyrood. Mary, Queen of Scots, was the last to live in Edinburgh-- and only while she was pregnant with James VI of Scotland, who would eventually be crowned James I of England-- what a place to live while pregnant. Isn't that supposed to be a time for nesting?
No nesting would be going down in Edinburgh Castle.
Ticket line was an hour long. Heard all sorts of different accents-- French, German, British. Had to scramble from the Castle to get back to the station in time for a train.
